"Tricking" your Skin with Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil is a common ingredients in all-natural skin care products, and let me tell you, it is NOT cheap! So why do natural skin care lines insist on including Jojoba Oil, if it costs a lot?
Well, Jojoba Oil is actually a wax ester extracted from the seed of the jojoba tree. More importantly, out of all the natural ingredients out there, it is most alike organically-speaking to sebum, which is our human skin oil. This is important to note because scientists have theorized that using jojoba oil on our skin (or lips) can trick our cells to think that it has produced enough oil. This results in more balanced production of sebum (our own oil). Isn't that cool?
Aside from oil control properties, because it is a wax ester, it does not evaporate like water-based moisturizers, and thus is a necessary ingredients for all-day moisturizers. It does not lose antioxidants, despite long periods of storage, which means that you can keep your products longer (or buy larger jars, since it won't expire!).
It might be expensive, but jojoba oil is definitely worth it! It is one of the "emolient oils" we use in the production of our custom-made lip balms, so next time you order some, make sure to include it in your personal lip balm concoction!
