Are you Nuts about your Skin?

At 1Skin, you might notice that we use Macadamia Nut Oil and Almond Oil often. Some might think we enjoy snacking too much, but the truth is these nuts are little packages full of benefits for your skin and your health. The best part is they are all-natural.

Let’s talk about the Macadamia. These nuts are native to Australia, which is why it is prominent in our Lip Balm and Vanilla Bean Body Cream products.

When eaten, macadamias can help to address high cholesterol. “Eating macadamia nuts as part of a healthy diet seems to modestly lower total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and to raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol” according to a study by the National Institute of Health. Simply put, the good fats that lower cholesterol are increased, while the bad fats are lowered. Most of you probably even notice that macadamias are often dipped in dark chocolate, a wonderful anti-oxidant.

On your skin, macadamia nut oil can be rubbed directly into cracked skin. Instead of buying products with a long list of ingredients that you can’t pronounce, a lot of people are opting to go the natural route, since macadamia nut oil provides a moisture punch and improves suppleness.

As far as the Almond, there are 2 types. The Sweet Almond does not contain any toxic constituents and is what we use in our products. The Bitter type does have toxicity and should be avoided in products.

When eaten, sweet almonds can be “a mild laxative and a remedy for cancer of the bladder, breast, mouth, spleen and uterus” (according to the Natural Medicine Comprehensive database). Isn’t that just amazing? It’s even delicious as a snack.

On your skin, sweet almonds act as an emollient. What is an emollient? It actually is a preparation that is known to soften the skin. Therefore, sweet almond can be used chapped skin and lips. It is even a weak antibacterial product.

The best part is the customization of these ingredients into our natural products!

Now you know why here at 1Skin, we are nuts about Macadamia and Almond Oil!
